Co-creation with Indigenous Partners: guidance for co-creation processes

Our staff conducted an analysis of best practices in co-creation with Indigenous partners. The document draws from eight case studies of co-creation in the Amazon Basin (Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana and Peru), Colombia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ecuador, Guatemala, Peru, and Ethiopia. Co-created projects are the starting place for trusted partnerships and our professional staff brings facilitation expertise to kick off successful joint efforts with communities. Guiding principles for gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) integration into Indigenous led-projects

COIMSO staff co-created with a group of Indigenous experts these 13 principles to ensure integration of GESI in Indigenous Peoples-led programs. These guiding principles promote a rights-based, Indigenous-led approach to gender equality and social inclusion (GESI), grounded in trust, respect for Indigenous sovereignty, and the central role of Indigenous Knowledge and governance systems. They emphasize meaningful co-creation, inclusive and ongoing FPIC, and the leadership of Indigenous women, youth, and marginalized groups, while ensuring adequate resourcing, prevention of harm, and long-term sustainability through intergenerational knowledge transfer and Indigenous data sovereignty. MEL framework for the Indo-Pacific Strategy (2019-2024)

We designed and implemented a regional MEL framework to track outcomes across $1.3B in programming for the Indo-Pacific Strategy (IPS) across 19 countries for eight programming sectors, including education, health, environment, energy, governance, human rights. We developed theories of change, results framework, performance indicators and learning questions to measure progress on complex development outcomes. We led the development of the first and only comprehensive regional reporting at USAID, generating 6-8 annual IPS sectoral reports and knowledge products synthesizing and aggregating data from $1.3 B Indo-Pacific programming to assess annual progress toward IPS outcomes. We facilitated participatory design and validation processes with stakeholders across multiple headquarter teams and 19 country offices, both for the design IPS MEL framework and the data collection process for compilation of the annual IPS reports. Contact us for TOCs, IPS annual reports, learning products.

Promoting Economic Inclusion of Marginalized Groups in MDBs' Safeguard Frameworks with Koppa Lab

COIMSO supported analytical work to strengthen the integration of economic and social inclusion within multilateral development bank (MDB) safeguard frameworks. The work identified barriers and entry points to better address the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups and improve how safeguard processes capture distributional impacts. COIMSO translated these findings into actionable outputs, developing three toolkits--focused on LGBTI inclusion in social risk analysis, poverty and social impact assessments, and stakeholder consultations--and a complementary guidance document for civil society organizations. These resources provide practical approaches to integrate inclusion into safeguard processes, strengthen risk management, and enhance project effectiveness. Contact us and Koppa Lab to access the toolkits.
